About Us

The Liskeard Traders Association was founded in 2009 by Ron and Maureen. They hosted a monthly event on the streets of Liskeard, creating a vibrant community atmosphere. Sadly, Ron passed away in 2010, but Maureen Smith and Linda Moore took up the mantle to continue his good work, ensuring the association's ongoing success and community engagement.

Maureen and Linda have dedicated significant effort to improving our town. They successfully convinced Cornwall highway council to implement the existing regulations, including a sign restricting street access to delivery drivers only, from 4PM till 10.30am. Linda transformed Fore Street that was previously used like a car park into an attractive flower bed, enhancing the visual appeal of the street. She also commissioned six decorative trolleys to serve as charming features along the street.

To further promote a pedestrian-friendly environment, Linda sourced benches from local businesses for visitors to sit, rest, and enjoy the surroundings. Her vision extended to planting flowers alongside the benches, making the area more attractive for both locals and visitors. Additionally, she established a pannier market in the old co-op building in Liskeard to support start-up businesses, providing them with a platform to grow with the hope of eventually moving into permanent shops on the high street.

Funds raised from the pannier market contributed to various town centre projects over the next eight years, including floral displays, flower stands, and hanging baskets, all aimed at making the town more inviting. These initiatives also benefited local shopkeepers, residents, and visitors, creating a vibrant and attractive townscape. The floral planting and displays have since been handed over to 'Liskeard in Bloom' in 2023 to continue with the floral displays.

Linda also took the initiative to clean and maintain the area around Pipewell, contacting Biffa to remove rubbish, supply a bin, and organize planters. She arranged for tenants in the surrounding area to have keys for large bins, facilitating rubbish

There was also extra money raised from the Pannier Markets that was given to Stuart House to support a much-needed fund, enabling them to secure a larger grant for important works they needed to carry out many years ago.

Linda also contacted all the shop owners to organise a cherry picker annually, so they could all have their guttering cleaned. This was done at very good prices.

Additionally, she again contacted all the property owners when Mary Portas visited Liskeard and asked if they would be willing to let out their empty properties to new start-up businesses for a period of a year rent-free. Convincing nine property owners to agree in a small town like this is a real tribute to her abilities and determination.

Although Maureen has now retired, she continues to serve as an honorary member of the Liskeard Traders Association. Linda, also retired, has stepped down from her previous role as chair and is now serving as the Deputy Chair of the Liskeard Traders Association. Additionally, Tracy Adams has been appointed as the new Chair of the Traders Association.
